David’s fight for his life ended on October 4, 2017 when the good Lord saved him from his pain. David was born February 10, 1955 in Gadsden, Alabama. He is the son of Harry Kay and Bettie Christian Whorton. How wonderful his life has been. After school he served our country in the Army for 9 years. Later he met his amazing wife and love of his life, Diane Dorfman. David gave Diane 35 of his 62 commemorative years. They met October 1981, instantly fell in love, and married May 1982. They spent all of their time living and loving life together. David was the kind of person that everyone automatically liked when they met him.

He was with Meineke Corporate for 22 years which took them from living in Houston, Texas to Charlotte, North Carolina. He was successful at training every franchise owner during that time period. He had the opportunity to meet many different people like George Foreman, Chuck McKinson, Nascar drivers, professional pool players and so many others.

He was a gentle soul, kind and caring, especially to his family and friends. Always willing to lend a hand, help out with car problems, or help any way he could. He was particularly accommodating to Diane’s mother, whom he loved dearly.

David enjoyed traveling with Diane to many places; Hawaii, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Mexico, New York, Tennessee and Florida, where they have a retirement home and could visit the “Mouse” whenever.

Shooting pool, riding his Harley Davidson Softail, watching Alabama football (Roll Tide!), riding his horse, riding his jet ski, boating and water skiing were a few of his favorite things.

Some of those he leaves behind are his seven siblings; Bettie Kay Beddingfield, Sandra (John) Duncan, Cam (Mary) Whorton, Donnie (Debbie) Whorton, Joe (Kim) Whorton, LuRae (David) Morgan, Harry (Angela) Whorton, all of Gadsden, Alabama. Sisters-In-Law Phyllis (Tom) Crowe, Charlotte, North Carolina, Carole Fedor and Wayne Haupt, Brother in Law Gary Fedor, all of Summerville, South Carolina. Special Niece Kari (Cullen) Case and their sons, Charlotte, North Carolina. Many nieces and nephews, and best friend Gene Smith. Special thanks to long time friend, Walt (Mary) Hollifield.

Love and thanks to all of David’s siblings who took turns for several months coming to Charlotte every week to help give care towards the end.
