Doris Lucille Test

July 20, 1925 ~ December 2, 2016 (age 91) 91 Years Old


Doris Test, 91, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, of Charlotte, NC and Oneonta, NY, died peacefully in her sleep early on Dec 2, 2016.  Born on July 20th 1925 in Pittsburg, Pa, Doris was the daughter of Ira Lindsay McConnell and Fredda Bernet Knatacher McConnell. 

            Over the years, Doris worked for American Cancer Society, The Migrant Workers Program, and as secretary at the First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta, NY.  She also served at the Director of Religious Education at the First Methodist Church in Oneonta.

She was very active in her church as a Youth Fellowship advisor and Sunday school teacher, as well as a constant member of the choir.  She was well-known for singing “O Holy Night” in the Christmas Eve services. 

Survivors include son David Test and daughter-in-law Nancy Cooke of Charlotte, daughter Beki Test and son-in-law Mike Neely of Columbus, OH, and granddaughter Katie Test of Washington DC.

A service to celebrate her life was held on Wednesday, Dec 7th at 2pm at the Avondale Presbyterian Church, 2821 Park Rd with Reverend John Earl officiating.   In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, 1841 Capital Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27635. The library asks that donations be made through that of personal check or cashier’s check and that the check is made out to Friends of LBPH and then on then note on the check “For Library.”  While she was using this service, Doris read over 1300 books – something that brought her great joy as her eyesight began to fail.
