Elizabeth Ann Stevens Pickett passed away Friday, September 22, 2017 in Charlotte, NC. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 30, at 1pm at Purdie United Methodist Church in Tar Heel, NC. Following the service, the family will receive friends at a reception in the church fellowship hall.
Elizabeth was born October 3, 1940, to the late Shelton Benjamin and Margaret Tolar Stevens. She was a retired teacher, having earned her bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University and her Master’s of Education at UNC Greensboro. Her teaching career began at Selwyn Elementary School in Charlotte NC, and the remainder of her 32-year career was spent in the Davidson County School System, primarily at North Davidson Junior High. Elizabeth was devoted to her students and positively impacted so many of their lives as a teacher, guidance counselor, and friend. Through the years, many of her students stayed in touch and continued to frequently visit her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harvey Pickett and her parents. Survivors are brothers Ben Stevens (Barbara), Bill Stevens, John Stevens, and sister Margaret Stevens Funderburk (Fred), niece Felicia Funderburk Haag (Mark), grandnieces Hunter Christina Haag, Holland Elizabeth Haag, and grandnephew Jonathan Stevens Haag.
