Elpida "Alice" (Christou) Politis

Elpida “Alice” Christou Politis died peacefully on March 15, 2018 after a brief illness.  Alice was born on March 29, 1931 in the village of Asimohori, Epirus, Greece.  She was the daughter of the late Angelos and Eleni Christou.  She came to the United States in September of 1951 and stayed with Harry and Aglaia Tseronis in Washington, D.C. before moving to Charlotte to live with her uncle and aunt, Nick and Helen Economy.  It was in Charlotte where she met Pete Politis.  They were married in September of 1953 and spent 65 happy years together raising three sons, watching their family grow, and spending many summers in Greece.
Alice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She also loved her church, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where she taught Sunday School for 25 years.  She was a member of the Agia Elpis Philoptochos Ladies Society and enjoyed volunteering at the annual Greek Festival serving pastries.
In addition to her beloved husband, Pete, Alice is survived by her children, Louie Politis and his wife, Irene, Angelo Politis and his wife, Athina, all of Charlotte and Chris Politis, of Holden Beach, NC and LeeAnn Politis.  She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Hope Politis Leak and her husband John, Pete Politis, Zoe Politis, Peter Politis, Dimitri Politis, Samantha Politis, Christopher Politis and his wife Sheila and great-granddaughters Carmen and Alice Politis, sister Georgia Katsoudas, brothers-in-law Angelo Politis and Steve Politis, sister-in-law Theodora Tsoulos and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother, Anastasis Christou.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral with The Reverend Father Vasileios Tsourlis, The Reverend Father Theodore Ehmer, The Reverend Father Tommy Vlachos, and The Reverend Deacon George Politis officiating.   Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the Cathedral on Sunday evening March 18, 2018 at 6:30 PM followed by the Trisagion service at 7:30 PM.  Pallbearers will be Pete Politis, John Leak, Peter Politis, Dimitri Politis, Christopher Politis, Alec Polites, Andy Politis, Robert Wheatley, Tasos Douglas, and George Lainis.
The family is very grateful to Novant Health Hospice & Palliative Care and to Dr. John Holevas for their loving care.  The family also appreciates the love and support from many friends and family during her illness.
