George Calvin Warren III was born August 20, 1943 in Tallasee, Alabama to George Calvin Warren Jr. and Juanita Kirby Warren. As a young child his family moved to Alexander City where he was raised until leaving to attend college. He earned his under graduate degree from Birmingham Southern College and his graduate in history from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. He began his career as a history professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, he then moved to Central Piedmont Community College where he taught for 36 years.
George had a passion for history, teaching and a love for his students. He was an inspired orator who spoke passionately about history, which energized his students and led to an inspirited learning experience. He also had affection for his community and preserving its’ history. In the 70’s and 80’s he was a member of the Dilworth Community Association working to preserve the historic neighborhood.
George was a person of great vitality and had a drive for life that was based in faith and a desire to help others who were persecuted unnecessarily. He loved spending time with friends and family and was always quick to laugh. He will be missed greatly and we are blessed to have had him in our lives. He is survived by his two sons, Matt Warren (Jennifer) and Nathan Warren (Anna), sister Zeila Baily (Jack) and her two daughters Shelia and Sharon (Keith), his grandchildren Nadia and Darian Warren as well as his grandchildren Noah, Jonah and Jacob Warren.
George’s memorial will take place at 2pm at Dilworth United Methodist church, on the 24th of March 2017. In lieu of flowers if you’d like to donate to the following foundations in memory of George, please do.
