Gertrude (Trudy) A. Vaccaro, 96 of Charlotte, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Carrington Place Nursing Home in Matthews.  Born in Deer River, New York on October 20, 1920, Trudy was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (Hancock) Meister.  She married Victor R. Vaccaro on June 21, 1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome, New York.  They were married for 58 years.
Mrs. Vaccaro graduated from Carthage High School and the Utica School of Business.  Trudy later worked as a secretary for Dr. Ernest Panasci and  Dr. Robert Feeney over 30 yrs.  Prior to moving to Charlotte, Trudy had been a member at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Rome New York.  Mrs. Vaccaro enjoyed golf, reading, bowling. She had been a member of Rome Country Club, and greatly enjoyed volunteering at Stonehedge Nursing Home.
Survivors include her daughters and sons in law  Judith (Vaccaro) Barnett & Jimmy Barnett of Charlotte, NC.,  Susan (Vaccaro) Goux & Frederick Goux of Myrtle Beach, SC.; grandchildren Jennifer (Barnett) Gillette and husband Andrew of Big Flats, NY., Jeffrey Barnett  and wife Kelly of Charlotte, NC.,  Bryan Goux and wife Jessica of Mint Hill, NC.;  great grandchildren Kelsey Rose Gillette, Nathan Andrew Gillette Victor Daniel Barnett, Isabel Ann Barnett, Ella Rose Goux.   Also surviving are her sister and brother in law  Mary & Al O’Neil of New Jersey; brother and sister in law  Gerald & Susan Meister of New Hampshire and several nieces & nephews & cousins
Mrs. Vaccaro was preceded in death by her husband Victor, sister and brother in law Marion and Harold Wilkinson; sister in law Miriam Meister; brother in law & sister in law John & Louise Vaccaro.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 29th at 11AM  at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Charlotte,  NC.  Interment will take place in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Rome, NY.  Donations in Gertrude’s name may be made to St. John the Baptist Church, 200 E. Dominick St., Rome, NY, 13440 or Hospice and Palliative Care, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28204-2408.
