Kathryn Mary (Murphy) Claiborne

Kathryn Murphy Claiborne, 81, passed away peacefully at the Brookdale Carriage Club on April 2, 2017. Mrs. Claiborne, the oldest child of the late Francis L. and Kathryn Lynch Murphy, was born on December 5, 1935 in Port Chester, New York.  In October, 1955, she married Arthur Richard Claiborne, and relocated to Charlotte in 1970. A graduate of Hunter College, Mrs. Claiborne continued with her education, obtaining a Masters Degree in Library Science at Appalachian State University. For over twenty five years, she enjoyed her work as the Media Specialist at Charlotte Catholic High School. Upon her retirement, she served as an active volunteer with Hospice of Charlotte and St. Gabriel Catholic Church until her health declined.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Claiborne was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Richard Claiborne, her son, Kevin Michael Claiborne, and her siblings, Brian Murphy, James Murphy, and Ann Murphy Bucciferro.

She is survived by her brother Frank Murphy and her children, Kathryn Jordan (Richard) and Paul Claiborne (Patricia) and grandchildren Claire Jordan, Andrew Jordan, Matthew Jordan, Keri Stocks, Leslie Netta, and Alex Claiborne.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 1, at 10:30am at St. Gabriel Catholic Church; the family will receive friends from 9:30 - 10:30.  A luncheon will be hosted for family and friends immediately following the service.
