Nancy passed away peacefully on February 28th at Sharon Towers in Charlotte, where she had lived for the past eight years.  She was born on April 12, 1924 in Greensboro, NC, and grew up there and in Larchmont, NY. She graduated from Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia in 1946 and married the love of her life, John Pitts Dorrier, in 1948.  They remained married until John’s death in 2001. She is predeceased by her parents, William Samuel Dickson and Helen Sparger Dickson and her sister, Helen Dickson Davis.  She is survived by her children, Catharine (Kit) Clark Dorrier, John Pitts Dorrier, Jr., and William Samuel Dickson Dorrier and his wife Robbin. She had eight grandchildren; John, Catharine and Clare Hurley (Kit’s children), David and Jason Dorrier (John’s children), and Jay, Reese and Claire Dorrier (Dickson’s children) and four great grandchildren; John Dorrier, Brawley and Bowman Dorrier, and Paige Hovis.

After her marriage to John, Nancy served on several hospital boards in Richmond, VA. She taught handicapped children at Nevins and Metro schools in Charlotte, NC, for 11 years and volunteered at St. Peter’s Soup Kitchen (now Urban Ministry Center Soup Kitchen) for more than 20 years.  She was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years.  She loved going to the beach and to her home in Beech Mountain, NC.  She was an avid tennis and expert bridge player and loved playing with friends several days a week.

Nancy will be remembered by all as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, always smiling and laughing, looking on the bright side of every circumstance.  She will be missed by many.
