Rachel Woodlief Cox, 90 of Charlotte, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018. The daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Woodlief and Addie Green Finch Woodlief, Rachel was born in Franklin County, North Carolina on April 12, 1928. She graduated from Louisburg Junior College and in 1948 she married Ralph J. Cox. The Cox family moved to Charlotte in 1953 where Rachel began her career with Presbyterian Hospital in the business office. She retired in 1990.
Rachel was a devoted mom, church member and sports enthusiast. She attended as many of her children's sporting events as possible and later in life attended her grandchildren's events, even driving down to Sumter, South Carolina. She was a long time active member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church and was a member of the Prime Timers, the United Methodist Women and served on the Bereavement and Backpack Committees. Besides her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph and 3 of her brothers Stancil, Leelan and Wilbur Woodlief..
Survivors include her children: Janet Cox, Jay (Susan) Cox, Brad (Susan Blackley) Cox, Gary (Sandy) Cox, Ron (Irma) Cox; brother: Curtis Woodlief; grandchildren: Bryan, Ashley, Jeff, Michael, Chad, Aurelio and Francisco; great grandchildren Sadie Beth, Aidan, Austin, Angelea and Derek.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 28th from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 6701 Idlewild Rd, Charlotte. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Dr. In-Yong Lee and family friend Rev. Gregg Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen City Cemetery.
