     The brightest sparkle we know on this earth continues to sparkle in our hearts. Melissa Siler Moss passed away peacefully at her home the morning of December 29, 2024. Melissa was born to Jesse Monroe Moss and Elizabeth Siler Moss in Durham, North Carolina. She is the youngest of five daughters and is known to all as Missy.

     Missy attended Metro Center in Charlotte where she excelled in both academics and sports. She was on the Metro basketball team, loved swimming, track and field, and bowling. Throughout much of her life, Missy participated in Special Olympics and traveled with the International Special Olympics basketball team. She was always proud of her medals, no matter what the placement was.

     Missy was also an accomplished artist and potter, attending Central Piedmont Community College and Penland School of Craft. Missy’s pottery was showcased at multiple galleries around the state, and her art was displayed at two local breweries and at many venues. She was an active member of Clay Matters Pottery Guild.

     Her parents provided a multitude of opportunities for Missy to experience life. She loved music and singing, learning to play the piano and the auto harp. Missy had her own stereo system and would turn up her favorite pop music for all to hear. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served as an acolyte.

     Melissa is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Siler Moss; her sisters Debbie Moss VanOrdstrand (Tom), Suzanne Moss Morris (Steve), Jessica Moss Howells (David) and Mary Elizabeth Moss James (David); Nieces and Nephews Wendi Dillow, Eric Morris, Sophie Howells, Eli Howells, Xan James and Zach James; and grandnephews Jack and Isaac Dillow.

To paraphrase one of Missy’s nephews: Thank you, Missy, for teaching us how to love all the colors.

     A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13th at 2:00 PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1900 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC 28205.
