Betty Sikes Blanton, age 87, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on June 12, 2017 at Huntersville Health and Rehabilitation. Betty was born May 5, 1930, in Charlotte, N.C., to the late Carl Loden Sikes and Maggie Ervin Sikes.  She lived in Charlotte all her life, attending Dilworth, Wilmore, and Harding schools. As an adult, she worked as a waitress at Circle G, Woolworth on Freedom Drive, and the Stockyard Grill. Betty is best known as the “hellion” waitress from the Cupboard Restaurant on S. Blvd where she worked her last 25 years before retiring to help take care of her husband. Betty loved partying and dancing, frequently dancing the night away at the Holiday Inn on Woodlawn Road.  She also loved the beach and beach music, following all the beach bands especially those her nephew, Hugh (Tuff) Blanton, played in. Although her health began to fail a few years ago, she always kept her good sense of humor and typically had a funny come-back to anything you had to say. “Let’s go boogie” was her favorite phrase which she laughingly continued to tell people even in the nursing facility as she would order a screw-driver with no ice. Betty brought many smiles and laughter to all those around her. As her family, we are grateful to have so many funny and endearing stories to tell about her. Betty will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by husband Charlie Blanton, brothers Joe and Harold Sikes, sister Margaret Overcash.

Betty is survived by her sister Francis Canup, sons Bob (Janet) of Charlotte, Randy (Terri) of Belmont and Tom (Tami) of Georgetown, SC, 4 grandchildren, Karen Sellers of Mt Holly, Alesha Collins and Crystal Craft, and Wesley Blanton all of Belmont. She also had 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great, great, granddaughter.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the many friends and caregivers of Charlotte Healthcare Center and Huntersville Health and Rehabilitation for the outstanding and compassionate care they provided Betty and her family over the past three years.
