Carole VanDrisse Burgess
Mrs. Burgess, 89, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 2, 2018 at her home with her family by her side.
Born June 18, 1928 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Carole was the daughter of the late Edward and Phoebe Delain VanDrisse. She was a graduate of Mount Mary University in Milwaukee. Carole worked for the Charlotte Observer for 25+ years which allowed her to have plenty of time to raise her 8 children. A member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Carole was an active volunteer at the church office. She also volunteered at Meals on Wheels, the local Lansdowne Voting Precinct and schools. Carole enjoyed spending time with her friends in Lansdowne Garden Club, Book Club, several bridge groups and never met a stranger. She was the hostess of many neighborhood kids at the Burgess swimming pool, baking dozens of cookies for everyone. She had the biggest heart with limitless patience through it all!
In addition to her parents, Carole was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Thomas E. Burgess, her daughters Susan Marie Burgess and Mary Carol Burgess, and sisters Joanne Lynn, Marilyn Brunette, and Sandra Sinclare.
She is survived by her children, W. Scott Burgess and wife Pam, Barbara Jacobson and husband Jeff, John Burgess and wife Frances, Lisa Almond, Kathy Weeter, Tom M. Burgess, Susan Stanley and husband John, brother Roger VanDrisse and cousin Marianne VanDrisse and 8 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, June 6th at 2p.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 5th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.
