Colleen Moore Filley, age 93, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2018, at Mecklenburg Health and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. She was born June 8, 1924 in Johnson County, GA, to the late Enward A. Moore and Mary Ethel Smith.
She graduated from Sparta (GA) High School, and attended business school in Augusta, GA. She married John Ed Humphrey after World War II, and was a valuable part of her community in Sparta. She raised two children- John E. Jr. and Mary June, sang soprano at First Baptist Church, and managed several offices during her working career.
After the death of her first husband, she married Kenneth Filley and continued her life in Sparta. After her second marriage ended, she moved to Wesley Chapel, NC to be near family.
Colleen will be remembered for her devotion to animals, charity to neighbors, quick wit, and excellent gardening, fishing, and cooking skills. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister Vyrene Johnson, brother Tom, and brother Galard (Red) and his wife Dorothy of Wesley Chapel, to whom she was especially close. She was also predeceased by her daughter Mary June Hopkins (Terry) of Roswell, GA. She is mourned by her son John E. Humphrey, Jr. (Karen) of Charlotte, her grandchildren Melissa Jordan Humphrey (Josh Hutton) of Durham, and Zachary John Humphrey of Austin TX, and many nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Mecklenburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. Per Colleen’s wishes, a private burial service will be held at Culverton Baptist Church in Culverton GA at a later date. .
