Eleanor Marie (Hartmann) Ruocco

Eleanor Marie Hartmann Ruocco passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday, January 21, 2019.  Eleanor was born on May 21^st, 1929 in Bronx, NY.  She was one of six children born to Ernest and Anna Hartmann.  In 1964, she met and married Mark Ruocco of Corning, NY and began a family in Poughkeepsie, NY.  In 1979, Eleanor and Mark moved their family to Charlotte with the IBM expansion, bringing her unique Bronx accent with her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mark (2006), her parents and siblings - Ernie, Robert, Anna and Dorothy.

 A devout Catholic, she volunteered in many capacities at St Vincent’s and St Gabriel’s Catholic Church in the Women’s Club oftentimes serving seniors well into her own senior years. Eleanor was an amazing mother and grandmother. She always had dinner on the table even after late-night athletic events and attended every school and athletic function that she could when it came to her children and grandchildren. She was the quintessential mother, wife and grandmother, she was a classy lady that never left her home without her lipstick.

Eleanor is survived by her two daughters Diane (Jim) Read and Donna (Rod) Johnson and six grandchildren Carly Read (Peter) Amico, Casey and Chloe Read, and Luke, Reagan and Gavin Johnson. She is also survived by her sister, Grace Luludis, and countless nephews and nieces who loved her very much.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mark (2006), her parents and siblings - Ernie, Robert, Anna and Dorothy.

A service to celebrate Eleanor’s life will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, January 25, 2019 at St Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28211
