Eugenia Warner Obituary

Eugenia Young Warner, (86), passed away on May 17, 2018. She was born on November 14, 1931 in Aquebogue, L.I., New York to Myron Curtis and Milly Tuthill Young. She had been a resident of Charlotte, NC since 1969.

Eugenia graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Music for Children. She additionally studied at the State University of New York at Potsdam, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Central Piedmont Community College, and the Montreat Presbyterian Conferences of Worship and Music.

She developed the first Music Ministry at St. Stephen United Methodist Church and served as Church Musician for 27 years.  Eugenia also worked as executive secretary for the Charlotte Choral Society and later business manager for the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte.  She served as a volunteer at Wesley Nursing Center for 42 years, and earned the Group Volunteer of the Year award (presented by the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association) with husband, Bruce, and daughter, Elaine. Their singing group, Sentimental Journey, performed at dozens of churches and retirement homes through the years.

Following Eugenia’s retirement as Church Musician at St. Stephen, she and her family became active members of Providence United Methodist Church. She served as Chairman of the Worship committee, held positions on the UMW executive board and at district level as well as a volunteer accompanist for two children's choirs, a pianist for the Christian Home Sunday School Class and for the monthly breakfast meetings of Methodist Men's Fellowship for 10 years. For the latter, she was presented with Life Membership in United Methodist Men. Eugenia also served 30 years on the Board of Aldersgate Retirement Community.

Eugenia loved her ancestry and the family she and her husband had together. In addition to family, she also loved her music, her church, her leadership positions in arts organizations, and her many friendships developed through the years.

Eugenia’s family would like to believe she has gone to join her husband, Bruce of Eastport, NY, who preceded her in death in 2010 after celebrating 58 years together. Surviving are their three children Kim (Diane) Warner of Forest City, Brent (Barbie) Warner of West Palm Beach, and Elaine (David) Levi of Charlotte; grandchildren Taryn (Bill) Keever, Jonathan (Candice) Warner, Rebecca (Jonathan) Humphries, Devon Powers, Garth Warner, Kendall (Tyler) Williamson, and Rachel Levi; and great grandchildren Makynzie, Hudson, and Adleigh Keever, Jase, Tucker, and Rowan Warner, Jasper Fagan, Laela Humphries, and Maverick Tocco. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Joyce W. Kelley and Betty H. Warner of Long Island, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Dr. John A. Pasquini of Novant Health Heart and Vascular Institute, and Dr. Joseph C. Mueller of Novant Cotswold Medical Clinic and numerous other doctors, nurses and special caregivers.
