Hugh Bernard Gavin

Hugh Bernard Gavin 74 of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Harris Hospice Unit of Novant Presbyterian.  Born on March 30, 1943 in Tarrytown, New York, Hugh was the son of the late William and Marion (Nee) Gavin.  

Educated at Manhattan College in New York, Hugh earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1965 and went on to earn his Masters Degree at SUNY in New Paltz, NY.  Mr. Gavin taught at St. Teresa Catholic Grammar School in Sleepy Hollow, NY  before teaching at Cornwall Middle School.  Following his retirement, Mr. Gavin and his wife Cookie moved to Indian Trail, North Carolina. They were members of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Charlotte.

Besides his parents, Mr. Gavin was preceded in death by his brother Bill Gavin, Jr.  Survivors include his loving wife  "Cookie"  Leona M Gavin; children Chris (Marjorie) Gavin, Vicki (Brendan) Ciganek, Tim (Joy) Gavin and Joe (Rachel) Gavin; and grandchildren Gavin Ciganek, Bryson Gavin, Cooper and Colby Gavin, Jaeda, Silas and Caleb Gavin.  Also surviving are his sister-in-law Katherine Gavin; nephews Bill Jr. and Mike Gavin; and nieces Kathy Nicastro and Maureen Gavin.

Visitation will take place Thursday, October 5th from 6-8 PM in the church narthex at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Rd, Charlotte. A Funeral Mass will be held at the church on Friday, October 6th at 7PM with Reverend Francis O'Rourke celebrating the Mass. Interment will take place on November 10th in the Historic Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, New York.
