Jim Wood was a great guy and a gem of a person. I have known Jim since I attended AG in 7th grade. I grew up in the Cloisters. I used to go into Foxcroft to play pickup basketball with Terry McDonald and Jim Wood and many other Foxcroft guys. Jim was always nice to me. He was one year older than me. Sometimes it was hard to get into bb games but Jim would always let me play.
Later in life I ran into Jim because we were both lawyers. I think we even had a case together years ago. He was always considerate and kind even when we were on opposite sides in that case. I would also see him sometimes at Art's Barbeque when I ate lunch. He would always ask me to sit with him and eat lunch. As I write this I have started to cry because I realize that I will never see him again. I am very sad. I will miss seeing him and kidding around with him

I remember Jim as a freshman pledge at Davidson Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. I wondered, "can anybody actually be this brash?" That year, he taught me that enthusiasm, energy, intensity, loyalty, deep thinking and love may sometimes come across that way, but it was I who needed to change, not him. I lost contact with Jim for a number of years, and one day he showed up at my family cabin in the mountains. "What are you doing here?" I asked. "I won a raffle for a weekend in a cabin your uncle donated in a fund raiser!" It was like we never missed a day. From then on he was my go to guy in Mecklenburg. And even in my home county, Jackson, he made a difference. I was arguing a motion one morning and I felt a tug on my coat-tail. It was Jim. I didn't know he was in the courtroom. He said, "Remember the so-and-so case," and I said, "And oh yes, your honor, remember the so-and-so case." The judge said, "I'm glad you cited the so-and-so case. It controls. Your motion is granted." I bet his friends could sit around and tell stories like this for days. I wish I could make it to his funeral. because I'm sure it will be a celebration of endless Jim Wood stories, but I'm going to be out of the country. Boy, I'm going to miss this guy.

Jim was a Great friend to me. 85 years old handicap. He always made sure I had a ride home from Showmars breakfast group. He was an ardent “heels fan”, Panther fan & hunting he loved. In the morning ride home we talked about life he loved so much. He like to talk, brag on his wife and daughter of which he was very proud. Loved music, & was great on his predictions on one sport or another..My prayers go with his family. I know Jim will be looking down checking on all. I will miss him very much.
