Jay C Overman, 60, of Charlotte, NC, died on August 23, 2017 in Wolf Laurel, NC.  The son of Jerry and Mildred Overman, Jay was born in Charlotte, NC August 25, 1956.  He was preceded in death by his father, Major E.G. Overman.  He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marie Hale Overman and two children, Cheryl Overman Harriss (husband-Ryan Harriss) and Robert E. Overman (wife-Bailey Watson); his mother Mildred Murphy Overman; his brothers Edward Gerard (Rod) Overman, Jr. (wife-Hilde Stevens), David Overman (wife-Judy Russell), Tom Overman (wife-Mary Ellen McGillan) and his sisters, Kathleen Overman and Elizabeth Terry; three grandchildren, Brooklyn, Kaiden and Reagan; and 19 nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins and extended family.
Jay served in the Navy for 5 years as an ordinance mechanic when he was honorably discharged.  He eventually studied and earned his Real Estate Broker license which allowed him to pursue his passion for improving homes in and around the Charlotte area.  He became well versed in flipping homes, applying his many talents in renovations to breathe new life into a house, thereby providing the buyer with a new “home” of their own.
While still in the Navy Reserves, he met the love of his life, Marie.  After a five year courtship, Jay and Marie married and began a 33 year adventure together.
Jay found his greatest moments of joy with Marie and their children.  Becoming a Grandpa or Papa only added a new layer of joy for him.
Jay was an avid hiker.  He loved to walk and became very focused on watching his daily steps.  In 2016, he successfully reached the 12 million step mark.  Most recently he was able to complete a lifetime dream to visit Alaska with Marie.  He commented on the amazing scenery and what a truly wonderful time they enjoyed.
Jay will be remembered most for the love and care he gave his family, and not just his immediate family.  Jay sincerely never met a stranger. He was usually the first to offer a helping hand in any way he could.
To those who knew him, he will be truly missed and always loved.
