John Richard Ferguson

John Richard Ferguson, 86, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Gastonia, NC died at his home on July 2, 2019.  Richard was born on April 17, 1933 in Gastonia to the late Thomas Lester and Fannie Grigg Ferguson.  Throughout his life he worked in different aspects of the construction industry.  He was an estimator, an architectural draftsman, a sales representative and owner of Ferguson Garage Door.  As a draftsman, he drew the plans for many homes in Gastonia, the Textile Lanes Bowling Alley in Belmont, NC and a Fire Station in Mt. Holly, NC.  He is a graduate of Ashley High School in Gastonia, NC.  Attended Belmont Abbey College and Gaston College.  He was active for many years in Toast Masters and The Little Theater in Gastonia.  Richard taught each of his grandchildren how to ride a bike, he read to them when they were young and gave them special handshakes that included a little extra pocket money for them.  He was married to Judith Haynes Ward Ferguson for over 60 years before she passed in 2017.  He served as his wife's primary care giver for the last several years of her life.  He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He was a former member of First ARP Church in Gastonia and a current member of South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, Charlotte. 

Survivors include his son, John Eric Ferguson (Craig); daughter, Holly Ferguson Greene (Dwight);daughter, Alisa Ferguson Wenning (Mark); grandchildren, Matthew Greene (Ashley), Zachary Wenning, Tanner Wenning, and Victoria Wenning; great granddaughter, Sadie Caroline Greene; sister, Frances Smith; brother, Charles Ferguson; brother, David Ferguson (Barbara); sister in-law, Meredith Darwin; many loved nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 11:00 am at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, 8601 Bryant Farms Road, Charlotte N.C. 28277.
