Josephine Carr (Bradley) Reid

Josephine, 98, of Lenoir, NC passed away December 14, 2017 at Summit Place of South Park (Charlotte NC). Born February 23, 1919 in Boone, NC to Pearl and Grady Bradley where she lived until she completed her undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University and began her teaching career. She continued her career in Florida and then moved back to Burlington, NC where she met the love of her life, Don Avery Reid (passed in 2004), during Jo’s graduate school tenure at UNC Chapel Hill, NC. They spent 54 years married during which they raised two daughters, Donna Reid McKnight and Andrea Reid Meador. She was a passionate teacher for over forty years at Whitnel Elementary in Lenoir and loved sharing stories of the children she taught until her final days. Both she and Don were active members of First United Methodist Church of Lenoir for 56 years. After the loss of Don, Jo relocated to the Carriage Club in Charlotte. She passed away peacefully and quietly in her own room in Summit Place. Jo was a passionate, strong woman who loved her Lord, her family, and teaching. We will all miss her and feel at peace that she can be with her love again.

She is survived by her sisters Maxine Burrows (Durham, NC) and Margery Coler (Camarilla, CA), her daughters Donna Reid McKnight (husband Dwight Jr, Charlotte, NC - grandchildren Hannah (husband Noah and daughter Iona) and Dwight III (wife Jaci)) and Andrea Reid Meador (husband Harry III, Big Stone Gap, VA – grandchildren Harry IV (wife April and daughter Ella), Don Robert (wife Brittany and daughters Avery and Chloe and son Brody), and Andrew).

We are having a burial service 2:00 pm, Sunday December 17, 2017 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Lenoir. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. Stephen Methodist Church in Charlotte. Donations can be made in honor of Josephine to Women’s Division, General Board of Global Ministries, The United Methodist Church.
