Joy (Williams) Stokes

Mrs. Joy Williams Stokes, of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at her home.  Born in Miami, Florida on November 10, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Gaylord Williams and Ruth Maule Williams.

Joy enjoyed being a stay at home mom and spending time with family and friends.  She especially cherished her time with her three grandsons, to whom she was affectionately known as "Mimi".  She loved playing bridge with her friends in Blowing Rock and those in Charlotte.  Joy also loved to entertain and enjoyed being around those close to her.  Joy had a love for the mountains, where she spent many summers through out her childhood.  She continued the tradition, living in Blowing Rock for 12 years before returning to Charlotte last year.

Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Robert (Bobby)Wilson Stokes III as well as her brother Evert Maule Williams.

Joy is survived by her daughter, Gay Stieber (Jeff); son, Robert (Bobby) Wilson Stokes IV (Nikki); grandsons Tyler (Amelia), Christopher (Kate), and Turner Stieber and great grandchildren Owen, Charlotte and Nora.  Also surviving are her brothers Raymond Gaylord Williams, Jr. (Ann) and Franklin Reed Williams (Karen) as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 12:00 pm at St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock. The family will receive friends after the service at home in Blowing Rock.
