Martha Lampkin Colvard died January 4, 2018 at the age of 104. Her husband, Dean W. Colvard, chancellor emeritus of UNC-Charlotte, preceded her in death after more than 50 years of marriage. She moved a dozen times, organized over 300 functions, taught cake decorating and travelled the world with her husband. A genealogy researcher, she was a member of the Osage Missouri Historical Society, the Clan Baird Society and the Manakin Huguenot Society. She volunteered in the Presbyterian Hospital Auxiliary and at Covenant Presbyterian Church, and she supported Wing Haven. A member of the Mint Museum Auxiliary, she pioneered a survey of contemporary artists and worked on the project for over 30 years. She attended Charlotte Symphony concerts until age 100.
Descendants include children Carol Cason (Ben), Lynda Opdyke, and Dean Wallace Colvard, Jr. (Carlos); grandchildren Jill Billings (Mike), Laura Gutknecht (Dennis), David Cason, Alexander Cason, and Raphael Garcia (Lauren); and great grandchildren Dean Gutknecht, Graham Gutknecht, Dean Cason, Wyatt Cason, Beryl Garcia and Phoebe Garcia.
Visitation will be held at the Cypress Clubhouse on Saturday January 6 from 2-4 pm. Interment will be private.
