Mary Virginia (Kiefer) Horne

Mary Virginia Kiefer Horne, age 90, died on May 21, 2019. She was born on September 13, 1928 to Leo Joseph Kiefer and Kathryn Ellen O’Rourke Kiefer in Tomah, Wisconsin. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Harold C. “Bud” Horne and her brother Clement Thomas Kiefer. She graduated from Tomah High School and continued her education at Edgewood College of the Sacred Heart in Madison Wisconsin where she received a Bachelors of Education in Elementary education. She was married on July 23, 1955 and consequently settled in Charlotte, NC where together they raised three daughters. She held various teaching positions in Wisconsin,Illinois and North Carolina. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital for over 20 years and was employed in the Admitting Department.

She is survived by her three daughters, Mary Kathryn Stalvey (Dennis), grandson, Christopher Curtis Stalvey, Ellen Conner (Grant) and Teresa Horne (Rick Wolfe). Also, numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She would like to be remembered as a faithful and caring wife, loving mother and grandmother; one who cared about her fellow man and loved her Church and God.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke Catholic Church (Mint Hill, NC)  and Queen of Apostles (Belmont, NC)
