Mary (Turner) Little

Mary Turner Little passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019.  Mary was born May 6. 1927 in Union County, NC  to Bessie and W.P. Turner and was the youngest of their six children.  She grew up on their Potters Road farm and graduated from Indian Trail High School class of '44.  She was selected Most Beautiful in her graduating class and her nephew Donald Lemmond was their class mascot. 

She was married and later divorced.  Mary faced the challenge of being a self-supporting single mother with a small child head on.  Her niche became retail sales; her specialty being men's clothing.  She was responsible for many well put together customers thru the years.  For many years before retiring, after working all day she supplemented her income by completing alterations on the clothing she sold to her customers. 

Her career lasted years beyond average retirement until November 2001 while sitting in a dentist chair she experienced a major stroke.  The stroke affected her life forever.  The stroke left her completely paralyzed on her left side; she never walked again.  After months of rehabilitation, she was able to return home, where for 10 years, confined to a wheelchair she managed to live on her own.  She maintained her strength of will and independent nature.  A fall in 2012 forced Mary to move to assisted living in Matthews, NC.  One of the things she enjoyed most while living there was interacting with and teasing the staff.  Summer of 2018 she moved to Monroe Manor, Monroe, NC where she was given attentive and loving care until her death.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings:  brothers Lawrence, Stanley and Perry, and sisters Ottie Gardner and Ruby Lemmond, nephew Donald Lemmond and her beloved only child William Forest Little.  She is survived by sister-in-law Betty Turner and  nieces Shirley Ray, Linda Pressley, and Patti Turner and Turner nephews Charles, Cecil, Tim, and Joe Jr.    

Private service and burial on Monday, January 28, 2019 Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, NC.
