Millicent Stafford Kincaid of Charlotte, was born on January 25, 1927 in Forsyth County. Daughter of Rober Byron Stafford and Mary Seawell Stafford, she was the youngest of five siblings: Virginia, Volta, Rex, Beth, and Evelyn. She graduated from Brevard College in 1945, third in her class.

Millie and Charlie Kincaid raised five children: Alan Reid, Marianne, Jean Elaine, Susan Elizabeth, and David Lee. Millie enjoyed a 20-year career at Robinson, Bradshaw, and Hinson where she mentored several colleagues and made many life-long friends.

Upon retirement, Millie married Bill Kincaid, with whom she traveled widely and embarked on many exciting new adventures. They were dedicated members of Trinity Presbyterian Church and loved the community there.

Millie’s life was a practice in faithfulness and sweeping generosity. Generosity of spirit, hope, and love. The eternal optimist, she saw the best in everyone and was the last to give up on anyone, including herself. She moved through all life’s changes with grit and grace, valuing family and friendship above all. Her wit and rhythmic spirit shown in every detail – limericks, crosswords, calligraphy, interior design, piano playing, watercolor painting, sewing handmade clothing and quilts, knitting. A practical dreamer, she was forever grounded in gratitude.

Time spent with her was time spent in the compassionate present. She could wax philosophical, and occasionally revealed a slightly rebellious nature.

She lived by a couple key tenets: “Eat dessert first; life is so uncertain;” “It takes a long time to grow old friends.”

Surrounded by family, Millie passed over the rainbow on February 22, 2019.

She leaves behind her six children, eight grandchildren and Six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, dear friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

A Celebration of Life Service will be April 20th at 11:00 A.M. Service held at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Providence Rd. in Charlotte.
