Calvin Thomas Reid, SSgt, USArmy retired, of Kannapolis, passed away on July 20, 2018 at the Tucker House in Kannapolis. Calvin was born in Salisbury on June 16, 1946 to the late Harold and Emma Reid . He was educated in the Rowan County School System before moving to Baltimore and graduating from Booker T. Washington High School. Mr. Reid proudly and honorable served with the US Army for 27 years before retiring in 1987 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam earning several metals and awards including three Purple Hearts, and the Meritorious Service Awards with Oak Leaf Cluster. Staff Sergeant Reid had also served at the Pentagon. He was a 33 Degree Mason and a member of the Shrine.
Calvin is survived by his companion, Judy Miller; children, Caren Lane, Sheryl Harrison, Christina Faulkner, Alessandra Reid, Elisa Reid and Bryan Hart; brothers Harold Reid, David Reid, Stanley Reid; sisters, Brenda Propst, Pamela Armstrong, Hazel Holland, Vivian Cheatham, Raynell Braxton, Gwendolyn Carter; grandsons, John Lane, Jr., Braden J. Hart
Besides his parents Calvin was preceded in death by his son Jamaladin Alexander and brother Jamie Rhyme.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 26th from 5-6 PM at Bethel Baptist Church, 2474 Dale Earnhardt Blvd, Kannapolis. A Homecoming service will follow at 6PM with Reverend Antonio Johnson officiating. Burial with Honors will take place on Friday, July 27th at 2PM in the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 nStatesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC, 28114
