Jody Ragan McCann, 79, of Matthews NC died peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 15, 2019 surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 4th, 1940 she was the daughter of Josephine and Charles Ragan M.D. Jody graduated from Marymount High School and Rosemont College with a BS in Psychology where she was both Class and Student Body Presidents. She also attended UConn to pursue a Master's degree in social work.
An entrepreneur, Jody formed her own company, JRM and Associates, Inc. in 1980. She was an active volunteer at both Mighty Riders and at St. Gabriel's Church. An avid golfer with a hole-in-one on her resume, Jody and her co-chairs orchestrated the Ladies Pro Am at Pine Lake Country Club for over 15 years raising in excess of $250,000 for Thompson's Children's Home. She had a tremendous love of family, friends, and in meeting new friends whereever she would travel.
Jody was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 33 years, Patrick Francis McCann, son Brian Sur, parents, Josephine and Charles Ragan M.D., sister Ellen Zaldo, grandson Sean Patrick McCann, and nephew Mike Zaldo.
Jody is survived by her sister, Maizie Jaffe and her husband Ron, her brother Charles Ragan and his wife Julie, daughters Mary Heidbreder and her husband John, Sheila McCann, sons Patrick McCann and his wife Donna, Kenneth Sur and her four granddaughters Katie Kanaley, Christy Heidbreder, Kelsey Knox, and Jessica Sur, numerous cousins, nieces, and many, many dear friends.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated in her memory at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Charlotte, on Thursday, September 19th at 11AM. The family will receive friends immediately following the Mass
