Nancy moved from her modest home in Mint Hill to a newly prepared mansion in one of Heaven’s choicest neighborhood on October 6th. She was enthusiastically greeted at her new home by Jesus, her husband Ken Godfrey, Mom and Dad, two brothers (Ronnie and Lenny) plus a large host of family and friends.
Nancy was born on July 27, 1943 to Parks and Louise Newell. She has four additional brothers: Carl (Martha) of Loganville, GA, Reece (Paula) of Mint Hill, Teddy of New Braunfels, TX and Robert (Jan) of Matthews. She will also be missed by her dear friend, Ginger Glenn.
One of God’s choicest creations, Nancy had the proverbial “heart of gold.” She was a compassionate champion of those less fortunate and actively sought ways to make their lives better. Though she had no children of her own, Nancy was every nephew and niece’s favorite aunt. Over the past 20 years, she was Grandma Nancy to the neighborhood kids … and to several adult neighbors!
After graduation from Myers Park High School in 1961, she began a 50 year career in the insurance industry and was well known and respected throughout the North Carolina marketplace.
A celebration of Nancy’s life on earth will be observed on Saturday, October 13th with visitation at 3 pm and service at 4 pm at Morningstar Lutheran Church, 12509 Idlewild Rd., Matthews. Memorials may be made to the Morningstar Lutheran Church Building Fund, 12509 Idlewild Rd, Matthews, NC, 28105. Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center ( www.carolinafuneral.com) is entrusted with the arrangements
