Pauline Swisher Richardson

Pauline Swisher Richardson Better known as Pauly by her friends at Plantation Estates in Matthews, we celebrate her full life which ended on April 15th 2017 at 5:00AM.  She was born to Frank and Florence Swisher in Lockhaven, Pennsylvania on March 13th 1922 and resided in Mill Hall, Pa until joining the US Army Nursing Corps during WWII as an Air Evac Nurse. Here she met her first late husband, 1st Lt Richard J Benson while both were on active duty at Westover Army Airfield in Massachusetts.
 They married after WWII ended and helped to raise her three surviving children; Karol Joan Garrison of Tallahassee and David Alan Benson of Concord, NC and Bruce Gene Benson of Tallahassee, Florida. Grandmother to three; Elliot Benson, Matthew Benson and David Aaron Benson. Great Grandmother to Reagan Claire Benson, Parker Reese Benson and Carter Ryan Benson all of Paris, Texas. Nephew Leonard Swisher in Lockhaven, PA, Pauly (Pauline) was President of the Charlotte Unitarian Church for one year, an active supporter of Theater of Charlotte and a member of Bridge Builders Club supporting intercity race relations during the 1990's here in Charlotte with her late husband, Dr David B. Richardson PhD.
Highlights were a trip to Switzerland to be present at the wedding of Dr. Thomas Pfister-Ott MD. and wife Lilli's oldest daughter Sidonia in 2010. Pfister-Ott was an American Field Service Exchange Student in 1964 with the Benson family. Pauly also was invited and saw the new WWII War Memorial with local WWII Vets a couple of years ago through a Matthews Civic Group. Having gone from a time when her laundry was sent to her by mail as she trained to be a nurse in Philadelphia General Hospital, to learning how to drive a car in the 50's and then flying across the Atlantic Ocean several times in modern passenger jetliners, mother has also done cruises in California and attended as Step-grandmother for Dr. George Richardson's daughter's wedding a couple of years ago in California. Pauly was well loved by another daughter-in-law, Harriet S Benson of Concord who passed only one year earlier due to cancer.
Truly this woman went to her Maker with gratitude in her heart for all the love she received from extended family members and friends here at Plantation Estates Retirement Facility in Matthews, NC.
