Russell James Kovar

Russell James Kovar was born on May 17, 1928 in Ludington, Michigan, the only child of Irene Young Kovar and Rudolph Kovar. He enlisted in the US Army and served during in Korea during the Korean War.  Russ went to business school in Muskegon where he met Marjorie Louise Weeks, and they married on November 26, 1948. They had one son and five daughters, followed by thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Russ worked for Colgate Palmolive and then got into the insurance business and worked for Nationwide Insurance. In 1971 Russ decided to try his hand in another business and bought a Shell gas station in Lansing MI. He owned that for a year and then went back into the insurance business. He then worked for Associated General Life, Michigan Mutual, and Amerisure,  (successfully completing his CPCU certification) and moved from Lansing to Novi MI, then to Indianapolis IN, and finally Charlotte NC, where he retired as a Vice President of Amerisure Insurance in 1989. Russ and Marge lived in Matthews NC from 1986 until 2011 when Marge passed away, and then in 2017 Russ moved to Augusta GA to be nearer to family. Russ is survived by his six children and their families, and will be truly missed.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 8th from 10-11 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 8451 Idlewild Rd, Charlotte with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 AM.  Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Lawyers Rd.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association  (alz.org)
