Ruth Elizabeth (Adams) Law

Ruth Elizabeth Adams Law, 91, passed from this life on December 3, 2019 in Charlotte, NC. 

She was born in White Plains, New York on February 12, 1928. She was predeceased by her mother, Elsie Knapp Adams; her father, Walter Langley Adams; sister Patricia Crawford; and her husband of almost 50 years, Charles W. Law.  

Survivors include her sister Judith Hanson of Reno, NV; son, Peter S. Law of Lexington, KY; daughter, Kathryn L. Garner of Matthews, NC; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  

As an IBM wife, Ruth’s life was rich and varied in experience as well as location.  Spending the first half of her life in New York and the New England area, Ruth worked in various professions and jobs to suit her situation and family.  Yet she was most active in church and community. With an IBM transfer to North Carolina in the early seventies, Ruth found her calling in whatever church (and denomination) suited her discernment to support and serve “the least of these”. 

When retirement lured Ruth and Chuck to Southport, NC, they embraced the area and were equally welcomed by many. After Chuck’s passing in 1996, Ruth remained ever independent continuing to create a vibrant life through her love of life-long learning. And her life became all the richer when she discovered Google.

Ruth enjoyed her groups at St. Philips, bible study, and sharing ideas and stories around the table with friends and neighbors during happy hour. She loved her home, garden and had a memorable gift for decorating. She enriched those she loved, supported many she met and kept us inline whether we asked for it or not!  

Call her what you may: Ruth, Miss Ruth, Mrs. Law, Mom, Rowdy Ruthie; she was intelligent, had a sly sense of humor and kept us accountable to the end.   

Her family thanks her Southport friends for their support. In Charlotte, gratitude is extended to her Aldersgate family, staff, caregivers, rabbits, tiny horse Brandy, Labradoodle Sam, and their owners. The loving, holistic care Ruth received at Asbury and through Hospice of Charlotte will always be remembered.
