William Muirhead Sterling

William (Bill) Muirhead Sterling, ‘A Hell of a Man’, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the age of 71. He was born on August 28, 1945 in Detroit, MI to Scott Sterling, Jr. and Marion Muirhead Sterling (both deceased) and was most recently living in his home in Pittsboro, N.C.  Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served honorably during the Vietnam War.  Following his discharge, he earned his Associates Degree in Accounting, but chose to utilize other skills in his ultimate career choice.

Bill was a dedicated father, son, brother, and a true friend to those who were fortunate enough to have known him.  He had a remarkable work-ethic which he instilled in his children and demonstrated with his 30 years of service at Miller and Long Concrete Construction, from which he retired as a Superintendent at the age of 62.  Following that he spent much of his time visiting with family, friends and keeping himself busy with his numerous projects from carpentry to cars.  He especially loved spending time with his 4 grandchildren.
 

Bill is survived by his daughter Christine and her husband Fred III, and their two children Fred IV and Morgan, and his son Scott and his wife Jessica, and their two children Carson and Hayden.  He is also survived by his brother Malcolm Sterling.

While Bill was a humble man in life, his family wishes him to know that they are certain the job he always promised he would fulfill has been accomplished, and that they will carry on his legacy of love, dedication and service.

Services will be in the form of a private Celebration of Life ceremony held by his family.
