Jane Gaffney Lawing Waggoner “Janie”, 97 of Charlotte passed away peacefully Sunday December 27, 2020. She was born July 16, 1923 in Charlotte, NC to the late Lafayette and Blanche Gaffney. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband Arthur Waggoner, Sister Lillian Hoover Stubbs, brothers Gilbert L. Gaffney and Henry E. Gaffney.
Janie graduated from Thomasboro High School in Charlotte. She worked for many years with her first husband William Craig Lawing in their family owned business Lawing’s, Inc. She was a founding member in 1959 of Christ United Methodist Church, which she attended, served and supported regularly until her health declined in latter part of 2014. In 2007 she received the United Methodist Women Life Membership Award. She was a continuous member in good standing for over 60 years with the American Legion Auxiliary, Pawcreek post 353. She was noted for her positive outlook, her great southern cooking and her always fashionable appearance. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Janie is survived by her sister Lucy Cloen of Howell, NJ. Daughters Marsha Diane Lawing of Charlotte, Sally Ann Lawing of Greensboro, Step sons Jeff Waggoner (Gail), and Kevin Waggoner. Known as Mamother to her Grandchildren Mischa Galloway(Wayne), Candace Watson, Heidi Medlin(Bridger), and Jake Waggoner. Great grandchildren Ethan Watson, Madison Evans, Miles Medlin.
Carolina Cremation of Charlotte is handling her arrangements and the family will be having a private celebration of life at a later date.
