Anastasios "Tasos" Demetrios Tatsis fell asleep in The Lord on April 29th, 2025 after a brief illness, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on January 10, 1939 in Asimohori, Epirus, Greece. He married his wife of 47 years, Sophia Tatsis, on January 16, 1966 and they emigrated to Charlotte. They then moved to Myrtle Beach and he established his very first restaurant. After two years, he returned to Charlotte and opened several other restaurants including: the Acropolis in Eastland Mall, Gustasos Restaurant in the Cameron Brown Building, Fairview Plaza Restaurant near Southpark, Tasos Restaurant in the Uptown Overstreet Mall, and another namesake, Tasos Restaurant, in Bradenton, Florida.
Tasos was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an outstanding cook and enjoyed planting his garden every year and sharing his harvest with family.
Tasos had an active social life. His daily routine included meeting up with his buddies at McDonald's or Skyland Restaurant. He took great pride in always looking his best and if he thought someone else looked good, he would remark "baby baby!"--this was his way of delivering a compliment.
Tasos is survived by his son, Steve Tatsis; daughter, Anna Tatsis Shinas; granddaughter, Efthimia "Mia" Shinas; brother, Angelo Tatsis and his wife, Avgoula; sister-in-law, Antonia Tatsis, all of Charlotte; Reverend Dionysios Tatsis and his Presbytera Marianthi and sister Evthokia Siozios, all of Greece, and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia Tatsis; his brothers, Peter Tatsis and Nick Tatsis, sister Katerina Skourtis of Greece, sister-in-law, Anthoula Tatsis, and niece Vivian Tatsis Stergiou.
The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 11:00 a.m, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Tasos Tatsis to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Foundation Fund, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
May His Memory Be Eternal.
