Anne Chapin Obituary

Anne Trumbull Chapin, 94, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on November 19, 2025.  Anne was born in Englewood, NJ to Helen Martin Trumbull and Allen Train Trumbull on September 11, 1931, the youngest of four siblings.  Anne graduated from Dwight School of Englewood, NJ, and later attended Colby Junior College in Waterville, Maine.

Anne will be remembered for her beautiful smile and gregarious way which would brighten a room.  She was always poised and fashionably dressed, but that did not keep her from sharing her quick wit and laughing with her friends.  For Anne, friendships were dear and enduring.  Anne met Louis Edward Chapin on a blind date, and they were married September 8,1957.   They were married for 62 years when Lou passed away in 2018.

Anne’s work life began in fashion for a hosiery company and Clothes Cart Boutique.  She was fortunate to travel internationally while she worked for Milleken & Company who had created the new Agilon stretch yarn.   After moving to Houston in 1965, Anne worked as a librarian at St Francis Episcopal School.  Later she earned her real estate license and had a very successful career with Shaner Group and Greenwood King Realty.

As a lifelong Episcopalian, Anne contributed to the community helping with many fund-raising festivals, social events and charitable endeavors.  She also volunteered with the girl scouts helping teach sailing skills to young scouts at Case Mare, a Girl Scout camp in Galveston, TX.   She also volunteered at the Beacon in Houston to feed and support the homeless.  And she was a reading buddy for young students.

Anne loved to entertain her friends and neighbors alongside Lou.  They would dream up elaborate theme parties and send out invites in the form of limericks.    Guests came in costume and found ornate  decorations and floral arrangements.  They brought people together to build relationships and community and simply to have fun.

Anne, also, loved an adventure.  She began traveling as a young woman in her career.  Later, she and Lou packed the kids in the station wagon for many adventures through Mexico.   When their kids were grown,  Anne and Lou recruited friends and traveled extensively throughout Europe, as well as China, Russia, Africa and Australia.

At the age of 80 Anne and Lou bravely left Houston for Charlotte to be closer to family.   They moved into the Aldersgate community where they found and nurtured new friendships. They also found a wonderful  and caring staff to support them in their elder years.  Her family is grateful for the kind and dedicated care that Anne and Lou received on the 2nd floor of Aldersgate.

Anne is survived by her children Timothy Chapin and Julianne Chapin Hoffmeyer and grandchildren Caitlin Anne Chapin (Sami Shad), Emily Claire Chapin (Alexander Loyal), Alexander Chapin Hoffmeyer (Shelby O’Neill), Page Britton Hoffmeyer and Mary Alyssa Chapin and great grand children Hasan Chapin Shad, Elijah Chapin Hoffmeyer, Hiba Chapin Shad and Kennedy Ryan Hoffmeyer.

Anne is preceded in death by her husband Louis Edward Chapin, her parents Helen Martin Trumbull and Allen Train Trumbull,  her siblings Mary VanBuren, Priscilla Wilcox and  William Trumbull.

A family memorial service will be held at graveside in the spring of 2026.
