Betty Bridgewater Obituary

Beautiful, brilliant, loving and adventurous, Betty peacefully passed away at her son’s home in Charlotte surrounded by her family. She was born June 23, 1926 in Asheville, NC to Frederick and Cora Ingle – one of her favorite memories as a young child was her dad taking her to see Babe Ruth play the Asheville Tourists. Her two sisters, Virginia Ingle Park and Linda Ingle Hiers, preceded her in death. Betty graduated from Lee Edwards High School, attended St. Genevieve’s of the Pines and went on to become district manager for H&R Block for 29 years, during which she earned a Treasury Card. She was a recognized tax expert, giving talks across the country,

Betty was a longtime member of South Park Christian Church where she was a former elder, trustee, deacon and Sunday School teacher, as well as the unofficial flower arranger for all services and events. She was a member of MENSA and former member of the Women’s Executive Club, Garden Club and Opera Guild. She happily chauffeured and cheered on her children in football, basketball, baseball, competitive swimming, horse events and served as a volunteer at the Wells Fargo golf tournaments, Mercy Hospital South and more.

She loved her family, bridge, golf, reading and flower arranging (and her evening glass of wine!). Her adventurous spirit took her to Alaska, Europe, Turkey and Greece as well as her belated 90th birthday present to herself – a safari to Tanzania, with a highlight being a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti National Park at 92 years young.

She is survived by her children Dr. Lisa Bridgewater, David Bridgewater (Sue), Robin Tingley (Frank), Scott Bridgewater (Jana); her grandchildren Heather Bridgewater Clark (Kelsey), Allyn Molloy (Tom), Frank Tingley (Jane), Brett Tingley (Elizabeth), Brittany Bridgewater, Tyler Bridgewater (Lizzy), Spencer Bridgewater (Jami); and great-grandchildren Bowen Molloy, Violet Molloy, Lytton Tingley, Jewel Tingley, Hunter Grey Bridgewater Clark and Elaine Betty Bridgewater.

A celebration of her amazingly well lived life will be held at South Park Christian Church, 6650 Park S Drive, Charlotte on July 5 at 1 pm. Betty requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to her beloved church.
