Betty Jean Ceranti Foppiano
The world became a little more still and quiet when Betty Jean Ceranti Foppiano entered eternal rest and everlasting life on (12 August 2021) at 88. She was born on 14 January 1933 to Rose Agnes Gaia Ceranti and Frank John Ceranti of Memphis, TN.
At once gentle and intuitive, Momma was one of the friendliest and most personable individuals one could ever know, and the sheer number of close friends and acquaintances she had through life are testament to her likability. She became an exemplary and adoring wife, a loving mother and a caring friend. When her husband, David, became the Regional Sales Manager and, eventually, Vice President at Binswanger Glass Company, the family relocated to Charlotte, where they ultimately retired. She gained the trust and respect of all who knew her and her incredible sense of humor will always be remembered. When she was present there was rousing conversation, hearty laughter and so many stories of the good old days of growing up in an old Italian family in Memphis.
Growing up she attended St. Anne Catholic Church and Academy on Highland and, subsequently, old St. Agnes Academy where she was near the top of her 1951 graduating class. Her lifelong faith as a Roman Catholic was practiced without fail and she even served St. Anne Parish as Organist. She took exceptional care of her husband, children and home and was the epitome of order, love and warmth.
While maintaining her belief in honorable and old-school values which she carried through her entire life, she was certainly not afraid to keep up with the world and technology, in fact she enjoyed those challenges and always strove to learn something new. In recent years as her mobility and daily regiments became challenged and diminished she never lost her spark for and love of life or her humor. Her intrepid and unceasing caregiver-husband made certain that she never wanted for anything and was completely taken care of as together they progressed into their senior years. Her children referred to her as “Momma,” a title that could not be any more true or accurate as she genuinely was a Momma - a caregiver, protector, defender, provider, affirmer, advisor, supporter and friend. Even as she aged and got noticeably more frail, her inimitable spirit and love of life, family and friends never wavered, and she simply would not allow anything to get her down or stand in her way whenever possible. A trooper and a fighter to the very end she was.
Betty was preceded in death by both of her parents, a grandson, Nicholas Lee of Charlotte, NC and her beloved husband and true best friend of 59 years, David, the absolute love of her life and soulmate, of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves behind a daughter, Cindy Foppiano Lee of Boone; a son, Scott Foppiano and a Granddog, Rosie, both of Charlotte, NC. She leaves behind two granddaughters, Alyssa Lee and Anna Lee of Charlotte and a grandson, Daniel Lee also of Charlotte, all of whom she adored and was so very proud of. She even had a little pillow that said “What Happens at Grandma’s STAYS at Grandma’s!” Such was her devotion and spirit to all lucky enough to have known that beautiful lady. She also leaves behind a sister, Patricia Ceranti Griffin of Cordova, TN and a nephew, Shawn Rowland of Nashville, TN.
A Requiem Mass of Christian Burial will be held onThursday, August 19th at 2PM at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte NC 28211. Inurnment will be in the Parish Columbarium immediately following the Mass. Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation is entrusted with the arrangements.

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May her soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiæ, vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve. Ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevæ, Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes in hac lacrimarum valle. Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte; Et Jesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui, nobis post hoc exsilium ostende. O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
+Requiescat in pace, Momma.
