Bonnie Cook Norman, affectionately known as Nana, passed away on April 23, 2024 in Savannah, GA. She had recently enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great children which will be remembered fondly by her family.
Born on October 6, 1940, Bonnie was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. Bonnie married Jim Norman in 1960 and he was the love of her life. Bonnie graduated from Central High School and attended Kings College in Charlotte, N.C. She had a long and fulfilling career as a computer programmer with General Electric. She retired in Atlanta, GA and later moved to Savannah to be near her family.
Bonnie was a lifelong devout Catholic and while in Charlotte was a member of Our Lady of Assumption and later was a founding member of St. John Neumann. She joined Holy Cross Catholic Church after moving to Atlanta.
Throughout her life, Bonnie was known for her love for her family. She was so very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. After retirement, Bonnie was a regular volunteer at Atlanta area hospitals. She loved gardening and was an avid reader of true crime and entertainment news. Bonnie was the smartest one in the van, always.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her children’s father, James R. Norman, and her parents Luther Carl and Helen Fitzpatrick Cook and her brother Carl Thomas Cook. She is survived by her loving children Kelly (David), Jay (Kevin), and Ashly (Daniel), as well as her grandchildren Blair (Andrew), Ryan (James), Devin (Michael), Madeline (Coulter), and Jason. Bonnie is also survived by several great grandchildren: Amelia, Everly, Callen, Decker, James, Lou, and Val. Bonnie has two loving sisters, Jean Johnson and Maryhelen Wood, both of Matthews, NC.
A service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC at 10:30 am on June 1, 2024.
