Brenda Louise Horne, 76, passed away on April 20, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our Mom, Maw-Maw, sister, Aunt BB, and friend, Brenda Louise Horne. Born on May 20, 1949, our mother spent her life caring for other people. She worked for many years as a childcare provider and helped raise many children in her neighborhood and among close family friends. She loved people in her own way, and she made a lasting difference in the lives of many.
If you knew Momma, then you knew she was loving and caring, but you also knew she could be strict and feisty too. She believed in doing things the right way, and she was never one to hold back what was on her mind. But along with that strong spirit came laughter. She could make people smile, keep them on their toes, and leave them with stories they would never forget. That strength, that fire, and that humor was all part of what made her who she was.
She may not have cooked all the time, but there were two things that so many people knew and loved her for: her banana pudding and her tater dumplings. Those were her specialties, and people who had them know just how special they were.
More than anything, Mom loved her family. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Mary Elizabeth Horne; her precious grandchildren, Matthew, Madeline, and Sarah Horne, who were truly the joy of her life; her sisters, Deloris Broom and Linda Love; her brother, Donald Horne; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and were dearly loved by her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Addie Privette Horne and Thomas Jefferson Horne, Sr., along with siblings she loved very much.
In her final years, Mom made many new friends and was cared for with kindness by the staff at The Pavilion at Brightmore. Our family is thankful for the care, friendship, and compassion they showed her.
We will remember our mother for her loving heart, her strong will, her feisty spirit, and the laughter she brought into our lives. She was one of a kind, and anybody who knew her knew that. She loved hard, spoke her mind, and left an impression that will not be forgotten. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
