Dorothy Bjorklund Schroeder, age 96, a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away peacefully on May 28th at the Stewart Health Care Center at The Cypress. She was born May 23rd, 1924 in East Orange New Jersey, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Martha Bjorklund.
She was a graduate of North Plainfield High School and was employed by the Bakelite Division, Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation where she met her future husband Robert “Bob” Schroeder.
An animal lover, avid bridge player, and golfer, she and Bob enjoyed many years as members of Quail Hollow Country Club and Carmel Country Club. At the Cypress where she resided for 17 years, she helped run the Tuesday afternoon Social Bridge Group, which she greatly enjoyed.
Dorothy was married to her late husband Robert who died in 2001 for 50 years. She is survived by her daughters Nancy Schroeder-Tarring and husband Bob, Towson, MD, Susan Payne and husband Steve, Ft. Mill, SC., and sons Mark Schroeder and wife Penny, Trumbull, CT, Scott Schroeder and wife Aleta, Walnut Cove, N.C., granddaughters Sarah Schroeder and husband Drew Rodgers, Kimberly Schroeder and grandsons Brent Tarring and Adam Tyler and two great-granddaughters Mara Mavis Rodgers and Ava Rose Tyler. Also surviving is her brother-in- law Richard Schroeder and his wife Sharon of Scottsdale, AZ.
The family would like to thank the staff at Stewart Health Care Center for the excellent care they took of their mother and a special thanks to Shantell who was such wonderful caregiver to “Dot” as she was to our father 19 years ago.
Memorial tributes can be made to any Animal Rescue Organization in her honor.
A private internment will take place at the Carmel Presbyterian Church columbarium.
