Dorothy Ann (Falconer) Witter of Charlotte, North Carolina spent her final days at home surrounded by friends and family. She quietly left this earth after 97 years in the morning hours of December 13, 2024 with her loving and devoted daughters, Laura and her wife Val, by her side. Dorothy endured a mostly graceful decline with Alzheimer’s Disease over the course of the past seven years. Dorothy, also known to neighbors and friends as Miss Dottie, leaves her four children Ellen Witter-Harrington (John Harrington), Laura Ann Witter (Valerie Pfister), and George Thomas Witter, Jr. (AnaMaria), and Sally Garr (Charles Brodhead) as well as five grandchildren ( Will Harrington, Matt Harrington, Kristina Grassi, Sarah David, and Melanie Witter), five great grandchildren (Liam Harrington, Jack Harrington, Kiley Elizabeth Harrington, George Grassi, and Henry Grassi. She was predeceased in death by her parents, Harold David Falconer and Elsie Edna Mohrbacher, her brother James Falconer, as well as her beloved husband, George Thomas Witter.
Dorothy was born in New York City on October 21, 1927 and always considered herself to be a transplanted New Yorker from Astoria, Queens. After getting married she and her husband, George, relocated to Staten Island, New York. There she was very active in her parish, Saint Simon’s Episcopal Church, and was honored for her work in the Women’s Auxilary. She consistently volunteered in her children’s schools assisting in whatever way she was needed and an active member of the Saint Dorothy Academy Mother’s Club. After her children were grown and gone she continued her volunteer activities in the Selwyn Life Center, an adult daycare facility, working with the elderly. Miss Dottie greatly enjoyed her family, friends and neighbors, animals of all shapes and sizes, gardening and being outdoors, socializing with everyone in the neighborhood, and visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a second mother to many and a role model to all. Her presence will be sorely missed by many family, friends, and neighbors.
A Celebration of Life to honor and remember Miss Dottie will be held at 3:00 O'clock, February 22nd, 2025 at the Franciscan Terrace Clubhouse, Charlotte, North Carolina. Burial will be private.
