Elenor Sophia Schmitzer
After 102 years, Elenor departed from Charlotte, NC to her final home, Saturday, November 4, 2023. Elenor was born February 21, 1921 in New Holstein, Calumet County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of the late Milton and Adeline Seurer Piper and the sister of the late Randolph (Randy) Piper. Elenor was a graduate of Miss Brown’s Secretarial School, Milwaukee, WI and worked many years in state government. Elenor married the late Robert (Bob) W. Schmitzer January 2, 1954 in New Holstein WI. Following Bob’s career path, they lived in Milwaukee, WI; Chicago, Ill area; Baltimore, MD; Florida; Raleigh, NC and Charlotte, NC. After Bob’s retirement, they designed and built their last home in Charlotte, NC’s Bishop’s Ridge where Ellie resided until 2019 when she moved into an apartment at Brookdale Carriage Club in Charlotte, NC and then, in 2022, into Brookdale Carriage Club Assisted Living.
Elenor was a long time member of St Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC and was very active in a guild which crafted items for St Gabriel’s Annual Christmas Bazaars. Her specialty was designing and executing small bead work jewelry. Elenor enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking and a dry martini before dinner. Ellie was ageless. She was always interested and engaged in the world around her and its politics, and kept herself abreast of current issues. Elenor supported many charities, especially the SPCA and St Jude’s. She loved working the LA times Sunday crossword puzzle and excelled at it. She was a voracious reader and, above all, a very classy lady.
Elenor was the loving Cat Mom to the late Cleo and Punkin and a very dear friend of Sue Schmitzer of Hartsville, SC and Mary Murphy of Charlotte, NC. Aunt Ellie is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews scattered across the country.
