Eugenia (Jean) Carter Woodlief, 90 of Matthews, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Asbury Rehabilitation Center at Aldersgate. Jean was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina on November 3rd, 1934 to the late Harry and Dora Carter. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Wilbur (Woody) Woodlief in 2015.
Jean was a graduate of Appalachian State University and taught 4th grade for over 30 years at Hickory Grove Elementary School. After retiring she worked for many years at CPCC. She was an avid reader and volunteered at the Matthews Library for several years. Jean also volunteered for the American Red Cross helping with local blood drives. She always believed in giving back to the community. Jean liked to stay active. She was also a very dedicated walker, walking every day 2 miles a day, rain or shine. She also found joy in gardening, planting beautiful flowers every spring.
Jean also loved to travel. She and her late husband treasured the many trips taken together across the US and abroad, and later enjoyed trips back to the mountains (her home place) and also the beach.
Mrs. Woodlief was a member of First Baptist Church Matthews and loved attending Sunday School and worship services there. She was a wonderful person and was truly loved by all who knew her.
Survivors include her brother Pruette Carter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Monday, February 3rd from 1-1:30 PM at Carolina Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 5505 Monroe Rd, Charlotte with a service to follow. Internment will take place at Evergreen City Cemetery.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Asbury Rehabilitation and Via Hospice for their exceptional love and care for Jean.
