George Lawson, 86, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024. He was living in Charlotte, NC, to be closer to family but loved his previous home and life in Palm Coast, Florida.
George was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1937 to Teresa Hornby and George LaPlante. George enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1954 and was proud to have served his country as an active duty serviceman in the Navy for 20 years. He met his beloved wife, Liu-She Yang, in Taipei Taiwan in 1968 when stationed there after his second tour in Vietnam. They were married in 1969 and moved to Oakland, California shortly after. He outlived LiuShe by almost 13 years; she passed away in 2011.
In recent years, George kept himself busy at his local gun range and became a safety officer to assist others. He was active reader and enjoyed British television, especially Masterpiece Mystery shows but loved anything on PBS. He never tired of watching “Singing in the Rain.” He loved to start his day with a crossword puzzle and end each day with a good meal following 4pm cocktails.
George is survived by two daughters, two son-in-laws, four grandchildren and 3 “grand” dogs. Everyone misses losing to George in cards and his grand dog, Rosy, greatly misses her daily treat and the constant sneaking of table food
