George Robert "Bobby" Rutledge

Mr. Rutledge, 78 of Charlotte went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 12th 2023.   Born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 14, 1945, Bobby as he was called by family and friends, was the son of the late George Leonard Rutledge and Mamie L. Rutledge. His family moved to Charlotte when he was six years old.

At the age of 19, Bobby met and fell in love with Violet Pressly, a young mother of four young children, Robert, Nathan, Rhonda and Donna, whom he adopted.  A few years later he and Violet adopted Curt, the son of Bobby's sister, for a total of five young children.

Bobby was a master mechanic and worked for Davey Tree Company for over 40 years before his retirement.  Mr. Rutledge was also a member of Laurel Baptist Church

Besides his parents, Mr. Rutledge was preceded in death by his wife Violet, son Curt, and daughter Donna.    Bobby was a grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 16th  from 12 :00 to 1:00 at Laurel Baptist Church, 11801 Plaza Road Ext, Charlotte, with a service to follow at 1:00 PM.  Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Lawyers Road, Mint Hill.  Following the committal service, there will be a Gathering of Family and Friends at the Rutledge home.
