George Cook “Puck” Young, Jr.
George Cook Young, Jr., age 74 was received in Paradise on August 16, 2018.
Born January 31, 1944 in Southern Pines, NC, George was raised in Camden, SC. He attended Wingate College and was a quality control engineer for Tic Tac Clothing. Later relocating to Charlotte, George worked for New World Records and Modern Office Machines.
Upon retirement, George dedicated himself to the service of others. He served for years with the Pineville Hot Lunch program earning a Presidential award for his service hours. He gave of himself in may ways to his church by ushering, Vacation Bible School, Room in the Inn and supporting others in their times of need. George's fierce love of God, Family and Baseball was immeasurable. He loved all things home with his family and especially Boston Red Sox baseball.
George was preceded in death by his parents George Cook Young, Sr and Marjorie Munn Knapp as well as one nephew.
George is survived by his wife of 25 years Sherrie Jones Young. He is also survived by 4 brothers Henry N. (Hy) Young, IV, Randy Martin(Barbara), Matthew Young (Valerie), James Young and 1 sister Martha Young Tholen. He leaves behind 2 sons Joseph Cook Young (Cathy) & Christopher Kevin Young as well as 2 grandsons Zach & Tyler Young, Mother in Law Lorena Melton, Brother in Law Dan Jones, Sr. (Jennifer) as well as nieces, Katherine Young, Melanie Martin, Emily Jones Baucher and nephews Matthew Martin, Dan Jones, Jr. and Sam Jones. He is also survived by many great nephews, great nieces and many other extended family members.
A celebration to the life of George will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11:00AM at Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church 8801 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210. There will be a reception immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church.
George fought many health issues. He put up a valiant fight and he ran the race for Jesus hard. Rest easy in the arms of Jesus sweet George. Job well done good and faithful servant.
