Obituary

Gerhardt (Gary) Grover “Pops” Cogan passed peacefully on June 21,2023 with his family by his side. Gary “Pops” was born in Bridgeport, CT on April 28,1942, one of 10 kids to Robert and Mildred Cogan. Gary married the love of his life Corraine when they were just 18 & 19 years of age and continued to be happily married until her passing in June of 2000. They exemplified what true love is all about, showing affection toward each other throughout their entire courtship. They are now together in eternal happiness and what a reunion it must’ve been!!

Survivors include 4 sons, Steven Cogan and his wife Melissa of Mechanicsville, VA, Gary Cogan of Milford, CT, Edward Cogan and his wife Jennifer of Harrisburg, NC and Kenneth Cogan and his wife Cyndi of Anderson, IN. Also survived by two daughters, Christine Andranovich and her husband Steve of Charlotte, NC and Corinne Frederick and her husband Richard of Matthews, NC.

Gary is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the apple of his eye and his greatest blessings. They all loved him so very much and made so many wonderful memories with their Poppy. He is also survived by his loving sister Phyllis Young and her husband Jim of Milford, CT and a brother Robert Cogan and his wife Florence of California. He is predeceased by his brothers Ronald Edward Cogan and Frederick John Cogan, his sisters Joan Volturno, Marion Stellato, Martha Weeks, Dorothy Ginsberg and Roberta DiCicco. He is also survived by many very loving nieces and nephews who greatly looked up to him. Special thanks to his longtime friend Linda LaGiusa for her care and companionship to our father.

Gary proudly served our US Navy from December 1959-December 1965 and was always such a proud veteran. He owned C&R News & Convenience store In Bridgeport, CT for many years. He was also a master carpenter by trade and loved the work that he did for many people.

Gary was everyone’s “Pops”. He had a natural way of making everyone feel like family and touched the lives of many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

At Pop’s request there will be no service. The immediate family will have a small gathering but there will be a celebration of life to honor Pops at a later date, which will be conveyed when they have it set.
