Helen Frances "Fran" (Conway) Welch

Helen Frances (Fran) Welch of Lincolnton died November 14, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born March 15, 1932, in Medford, Massachusetts. She graduated from Emmanuel College and Boston College, and over the years lived in Massachusetts, Maryland, Hawaii, and North Carolina.

The most important things in her life were faith, family, and friends. She was a director of religious education at parishes in Forestville, Maryland, and Cary, North Carolina, and in later years was active in faith groups at Our Lady of the Assumption and St. John Neumann parishes in Charlotte. She was a lifelong member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and loved to travel, both abroad and throughout the U.S., especially to NASCAR races.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching figuring skating, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. 

Fran is survived by her children: Steve (Ginger) Welch; Elizabeth Johnson; and John (Monica) Welch; grandchildren Amanda (Jimmy), Stephen, Patrick, Matthew, Christopher (Claude), Gregory, Cathy, Robert, David, Ariana, and Jack; and great-grandsons Jay, Ethan, Jackson, and Astor. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael, and brother, Fr. Tom Conway.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fran’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
