Irene G. Mercurio, 84, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021, with family by her side. She was born on December 18, 1936 in Cassville, West Virginia to the late Stephen and Mary Pataki. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Michael S. Mercurio, brothers Steve, Julius and Anthony Pataki, and sisters Margaret Pataki and Virginia Kiseda.
She is survived by her son Michael C. Mercurio, and his wife Mary, grandchildren Steven Stirp and Stephanie Austin, her husband Brandon, and great grandchildren Sean Stirp and Aiden and Ava Austin. She also survived by sisters Mary C. and Elizabeth Pataki.
Prior to moving to Charlotte in 2004, Irene lived in the greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area for over 40 years. She loved traveling, gardening and spending time with her family and friends during annual holiday celebrations. She also was an active member of the St. Perpetua and St. Matthews Catholic churches, and enjoyed cooking, periodic caregiving, and going to the movies. She will be remembered as a caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
A memorial mass and graveside committal will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at a later date.
