Janet Killough Obituary

Janet Solada Killough passed peacefully in her sleep on the morning of January 5, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Janet “Mae” Killough was born on April 30, 1945, to George Norman Solada and Alvina Thohorst Solada. She was a graduate of Meyers Park High School and remained at home until her marriage. In 1967, she married the love of her life, Joe Neal Killough. Together, they welcomed their son, Phillip Norman Killough.

Janet devoted her life to being a homemaker, dedicating her time and heart to raising her son and caring for her family. When she was not at home, she enjoyed beach trips with her girlfriends, attending her grandchildren’s activities, and volunteering through her church.

She was an active member of Morningstar Lutheran Church for over 30 years, where she was a proud participant in the WELCA Women’s Group and the Senior Group. Janet also served as President of the church’s Angel Tree Board, where she worked tirelessly to ensure that as many children as possible experienced the joy of finding gifts under the Christmas tree each year.

Family was always Janet’s greatest priority, and she never missed an opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren. Some of their fondest memories were made during summers spent at “Camp MawMaw.” Janet will be remembered for her outgoing spirit and her unconditional love for those around her.

She is survived by her son, Phillip Norman Killough; her grandchildren, Chase Killough (Makayla) and Ashley Killough; her great-grandson, Levon Joseph Killough; her nieces, Deborah Brott (Guy) and Daphne Klumpp; her nephew, George Ray Solada; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Norman Solada and Alvina Thohorst Solada; her brother, George Alvin Solada; and her beloved husband, Joe Neal Killough. Funeral services will be held at The Chapel at Morningstar Lutheran Church on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow in the Chapel’s Memorial Garden.
